a good kind of sadness

i've never been able to figure out my fascination with songs written in minor keys. they have such a delicious sadness to them. there are some songs i find myself coming back to again and again. the other night we were looking through the Cantus for a good song and almost all the bookmarks are at places with sad minor songs.

By the river, there we sat,
In Babylon we sat and we wept
And upon the willows there
Hung our harps
For we remembered Zion

this is probably the one that sticks the most. i love every tune i've ever heard for it, and especially the one with this arrangement of words. sometimes when i play in church all my songs are like this. i wonder what people think. :-)

i'd better go to bed, since i have night shift again today. i stayed awake and alert all through the service, and understood it all, which is more than i expected. this is the first time i've had night shift over sat/sun, so i'm just practicing to see what works. it's also the first time i am alone through the whole shift. but the weekend is usually quiet, and i can call someone if i need them, so it didn't bother me. i guess i'll post again when i'm done with my tour. have a good week.
